All public authorities in the Cayman Islands, including the Ministry of Financial Services and Commerce, participate in the Cayman Islands Government’s Freedom of Information (FOI) Act.
The FOI Act encourages openness, transparency, accountability, and greater public participation in decision making.
Information that relates to the Ministry is accessible either through the Ministry’s publication scheme, or by submitting an FOI request to the Ministry.
The publication scheme includes helpful information about how the public can access these categories of information without filing an FOI request.
If the information you seek is not found in the Ministry’s publication scheme then submit an FOI request.
Your FOI request must comply with these four requirements.
The Ministry is required by law to respond to your request within 30 calendar days of receiving it. If we need an extension to process your request, the Ministry will advise you in writing within 30 calendar days of receiving your request.
If you are dissatisfied with the Ministry’s response to your FOI request, you have the legal right to complain to the Cayman Islands Ombudsman, an independent office of Parliament.
