Army Cadets

The Cayman Islands Cadet Corps training programme is patterned off the UK Army Cadet Force (ACF) (The Cadet Training Manual), with input from other Cadet Corps. It is tailored to meet the needs of high school children in the Cayman Islands, as well as being competitive with regional and international Cadet Corps.

The core of the training is hinged around the ACF 4-Star progressive training system. Subjects which are undertaken initially at Basic Training are available at a higher Star level in a more advanced form. The cadet who will normally serve four years in the CICCorps will gain an Army Proficiency Certificate (APC) at each Star level.

The Syllabus is designed for progression as follows.

• 3 months Basic Training (blank star after Passing Out)
• 9 months 1-Star Training (1-Star level qualified)
• 12 months 2-Star Training (2-Star level qualified)
• 18 months 3-Star Training (3-Star level qualified)
• 6 months 4-Star Training (4-Star level qualified)
• 6 months Master Cadet Training (Master Cadet Award qualified)

1. Dress & Turnout – Helps to instill dress discipline and paying attention to details.
2. Drill – Produces a cadet who is alert and obedient and provides the basis of teamwork. It is the basis for instilling discipline by allowing cadets to pay attention to details.
3. Field Craft & Adventure – Learning to operate in a harsh environment and be effective. Learning about and protecting the environment. Disaster & Emergency Preparedness and Search and Rescue.
4. Map & Compass – Learning to operate anywhere, anytime and navigate around any difficulty. Restoration of Cayman seafarers’ heritage in navigation.
5. First Aid – Helping to save lives in emergencies.
6. Skill At Arms + competition shooting – Learning to work and operate in dangerous environment safely. Rifles will be mainly used for ceremonial drill.
7. Physical Training & sports – Building strength and endurance.
8. Cadet in the Community + Field Trips – Knowing their community and helping to build it.
9. Practical Leadership Training – Learning to control and work with a team from the basic section level.
10. Signal & Technology – Learning effective communications over various mediums using modern technologies.
11. Citizenship – Learning the qualities required for good citizenship. Loyalty to the Cayman Islands and obedience to the rule of law.
12. Music & Band - Learning to play music for concert setting and marching.
13. Camping – Experience life away from home. Learn how to survive without the every day luxury that we take for granted.
14. BTEC Diploma in Public Service, offered to cadets 16 and older. It is a vocational qualification equivalent to 4 GCSE passes. The BTEC Diploma is evaluated by the Cadet Vocational Qualification Office (CVQO) in the UK.
