A LIFE WELL LIVED

The Honourable Sybil Ione McLaughlin, MBE, JP was a beloved and active member of society, and a role model for many Caymanians. Mrs. Sybil, as she was affectionately called, was named a national hero in 1996 for her invaluable contributions to Cayman's parliamentary development, as well as to community life.
 
Among her outstanding achievements, Hon. Sybil McLaughlin was appointed the first Speaker of the Legislative Assembly in 1991. She was also the first female Clerk of the LA in the Commonwealth.
 
Hon. Sybil McLaughlin passed away at home on Tuesday, 10 May 2022, surrounded by her family. She will be afforded the highest honours in the form of an Official Funeral on Friday, 20 May 2022.
