Safer Roads

The Cayman Islands National Road Safety Strategy 2023-2038 aims to reduce road fatalities by 100 percent by 2038. This comprehensive initiative is dedicated to making our roads safer for everyone. In a world that is constantly in motion, the importance of road safety cannot be overstated. With the advent of new technology and the ever-increasing demands of modern life, challenges such as texting while driving and speeding have emerged as leading causes of road fatalities.

An initiative led by the Ministry of Planning, Agriculture, Housing and Infrastructure, the National Road Safety Strategy is a bold and innovative approach to address these critical issues head-on. We understand that the consequences of texting while driving and speeding can be devastating, not only for the individuals involved but for their families and our communities as well. That is why the Cayman Islands Government has developed this multifaceted strategy that combines education, enforcement, engineering and emergency response to reduce these dangers and create a safer environment for all road users.

The Road to Zero: let’s get there together.

No More for 2024

The Cayman Islands Government is committed to making our roads safer with a clear vision: Safe Roads, Safe Cayman: The Road to Zero.

Saving lives and ensuring that all journeys, no matter how short or long, are safe for everyone. The success of this campaign is reliant on the collective commitment to creating resilient, responsible communities. Together, we can make a difference. Join the commitment to eliminating road fatalities.

What If

The "What If" campaign aims to prompt individuals to consider the potential outcomes of their actions behind the wheel through powerful, thought-provoking messaging and imagery. By addressing the critical issues of texting while driving and speeding, the campaign seeks to reduce accidents, save lives, and foster a culture of safer roads. In partnership with the Ministry of Planning, Agriculture, Housing & Infrastructure, the Department of Vehicle and Drivers’ Licensing, the Royal Cayman Islands Police Service, and the National Roads Authority, the Cayman Islands Government has formed a special sub-committee that will focus on education and community engagement to instil responsible road behaviour. Every life lost on the road is a loss for the entire community. This loss is made more tragic by the realization that it could have been avoided.

In 2011 the Cayman Islands Government launched a multi-agency safety strategy that highlighted the importance of a partnership between the Royal Cayman Islands Police Service, the National Roads Authority and the Department of Vehicle and Drivers Licensing. Road safety is more than just the enforcement of the law on drivers. Educating communities and ensuring the strong infrastructure of the roads is key to creating a culture of safe, considerate driving.
